S. Michaela Kerns
Michaela Kerns is the firm’s family law and juvenile practice attorney. Michaela grew up outside of Chicago. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina in Asheville in Health and Women’s Studies. While in Asheville, Michaela helped to form a women’s health collective offering direct healthcare services and information to women.
After graduation, Michaela moved to Madison, WI, to pursue her graduate degree in Women’s Studies, focusing on the history of medicine and childbirth in the United States. After surviving two Midwestern winters, Michaela packed up the car and drove from Wisconsin to Eugene to attend law school at the University of Oregon. During law school, Michaela worked for Lane County Legal Aid, appearing in court on behalf of survivors of domestic violence seeking to obtain protective orders, custody of their children, and divorces. Michaela also worked for the Lane County Public Defender’s Office. Following law school, Michaela clerked for Judge Jay A. McAlpin of the Lane County Circuit Court.
Michaela is now a member of the Lane County Juvenile Law Consortium, working closely with families and youths in moments of crisis. Michaela’s practice areas include family law, juvenile law, criminal defense, and personal injury.
